Book Reviews

I read a lot of books and since early 2011 I’ve made it a point to review (most of) them after I’m done.  I write those reviews on Amazon where they can actually serve a purpose, but at the same time I don’t like taking the time to write stuff that I can’t distribute as I see fit.  Therefore, I give you the first (genuine) alternate page on my blog: Book Reviews!

Disclaimer, though.  Not every book or graphic novel I read gets reviewed.  I have to have something objective to say about the work, and I won’t review a piece of fiction or a graphic novel that I think is great (or not that great but not awful for any reason other than it just wasn’t spectacular) when I have nothing to say about it except, “Wow, this was really great,” or “Meh.”  Examples: Ender’s Game, Ender’s Shadow, Batman: Hush, Ghost World, The Tempest, The Catcher in the Rye, just to name a few.  Beyond that, there are a few that I review that Amazon won’t post.  Actually, as of writing this, it’s only knowingly happened to me once, with The Heavenly Man.  It was a short review that said, “Humbling.  Challenging.  View-changing.”  I don’t know why they chose to not publish it.  Regardless, these are all the books that I have (successfully) reviewed, and I hope you can find them useful or insightful in some way.

Check back often as I’ll update this page regularly.

I’ve categorized them below and therein organized alphabetically by title.  Each title is directly linked to my Amazon review of that book.  I’ve also provided my star rating for each one for quick reference.
